"Select Poems Divine and Humane" is a compelling collection of verse by Thomas Beedome, a poet of the early 17th century whose work captures the spiritual and secular tensions of the Caroline era. The collection is organized into two distinct spheres: the divine, which encompasses poignant religious meditations and prayers, and the humane, which features elegies, epistles, and lyrical observations on the human condition.

Beedome's poetry is often associated with the metaphysical tradition, characterized by its intellectual depth, striking metaphors, and rhythmic complexity. His sacred verses reflect a profound engagement with faith and mortality, while his secular pieces reveal a sharp wit and a keen eye for social detail. As a contemporary of the great Cavalier and religious poets, Beedome offers a unique perspective on the evolution of the English lyric during a transformative period in literary history.

This volume serves as an essential resource for readers of Renaissance and seventeenth-century literature, preserving the legacy of a writer whose voice resonates with both earnest devotion and worldly insight. "Select Poems Divine and Humane" stands as a testament to the enduring power of early modern English verse.
