Alice Meynell (1847–1922) was a celebrated poet, prolific essayist and committed suffragist. 'W. M.' was her husband, the publisher and editor, Wilfred Meynell. Their youngest son, Francis, ran the Nonesuch Press with his wife, Vera, and David Garnett.
