A Selection of Letters and Meditations Ed. by W. Palmer

A Selection Of Letters And Meditations Ed. By W. Palmer by Irwine Whitty. This is a devotional collection comprising the letters and meditations of the Irish Anglican priest Irwine Whitty, edited by W. Palmer. The volume presents Whitty’s personal correspondence with friends and family during a turbulent period in Ireland, revealing a life marked by steadfast piety, pastoral care, humility, and compassionate leadership. The Preface outlines Whitty’s background: born in 1778, educated at Trinity College Dublin, and ordained under Archbishop Brodrick; his service in Kilrush, Cashel, Glankeen, and Golden; and his death in 1832 after ministering to others amid social upheaval. Interwoven with Whitty’s letters are his meditations—dated reflections on scripture, grace, suffering, and the Christian path. Together, the letters and meditations illuminate a life devoted to God, family, and the good of his parish, offering both spiritual counsel and a portrait of a clergyman whose faith endured through adversity.
