Prize bookplate, dated 1841, to the front paste down. Written by Edward Berens, the Archdeacon of Berkshire and fellow of Oxford University. Featuring a selection of papers from the author and essayist Joseph Addison, taken from the Spectator and Guardian publications. This collection of work are aimed at young people, and include themes which includes cheerfulness, dreams, self-knowledge, love and marriage and drunkeness among many others. In a full calf prize binding. Externally smart, with some rubbing, mostly to the spine, and a small loss to the head of the spine. Gilt remains bright. Front hinge is starting but remains firm.
