A Selection From The Physiological And Horticultural Papers, Published In The Transactions Of The Royal And Horticultural Societies By. T.A. Knight — Thomas Andrew Knight. This biographical collection centers on Knight, a leading English horticulturist and plant physiologist, describing his life, scientific aims, key collaborations, and the broad impact of his work on vegetable physiology and practical gardening. It presents Knight’s career from modest beginnings to prominence in the Royal Society and as President of the London Horticultural Society, highlighting his practical improvements in fruit trees, grafting, sap physiology, and breeding, as well as his networks with Joseph Banks, Humphry Davy, Mirbel, and Dutrochet. The volume foregrounds the interplay of theory and utility, experimental rigor, and the cross?fertilization of science and horticulture, while tracing his legacy in education, public service, and the welfare of others. The contents include Knight’s life, his correspondence and writings, honors and varieties, and selections from his papers on vegetable physiology, notably Observations on the Grafting of Trees (1795) and Accounts of Experiments on the Ascent of the Sap in Trees (1801).
