The second and third volume of this four volume set on the Indian Mutiny, providing access to official documents from the military department of the Government of India. Two volumes of four, being volumes two and three only. First edition. Very scarce. Volume two is illustrated with fifteen plates, three of which are folding, and two folding plans to the pocket at the rear. Lacking the plate to face page 195. A collection of the letters, despatches, and state papers of the Military Department of the Government of India relating to the Indian Mutiny 1857-1858. Including documentation from Havelock's campaign, General Sir James Outram's defence of residency, Sir Colin Campbell's relief of Lucknow, General Windham's defence of Cawnpore, Major-General Sir James Outram's defence of Alumbagh, and Sir Colin Campbell's capture of Lucknow. Edited by Sir George William David Stark Forrest, a British educator, journalist and historian, who resided in India from 1872 to 1900. In the original full red cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with the odd mark to the boards. Damp marking to the front board of volume two. Rear hinge of volume three starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound with the last two pages of volume two detached but present. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Tide marks to the foredge and extremities. With light loss to the page edges of the last few pages of volume three. Good Only.
