Self-help for Smarties: Secret Success Codes for Weight Loss, Love, Career And Parenting

Self-Help for Smarties is for people ready to throw away all those self-help books on weight loss, love relationships, career and parenting that never worked. Using examples from real people and real situations, Dr. Gootnick unlocks the secret codes for us to achieve real success in those areas. “How many times in your life have you said or thought, 'If only' you had said or done something differently?” he writes. “As a psychiatrist I listen to people's stories of failure and frustration all the time. It's my job to ferret out what is behind the feelings of guilt and resentment so often expressed in my office, and then figure out how to help people change lifelong, undermining patterns. . . . People really do want to change, some desperately.” Self-Help for Smarties is a hands-on guide that offers practical tools to make those changes: simple explanations and specific self assessments to burst through chains of suppressed guilt andresentment that cause the self-defeating behaviors. Dr. Gootnick helps us understand how early life experiences create mind-sets that influence what we do and how we think about and react to situationstoday. He then shows us how to change our thinking to effectively lose weight, to succeed in love relationships and our careers and to be better parents. A feature that makes the book easy to use are the charts that identify specific behaviors and that allow us to look up our personal problem and see at a glance how it originated and how we may have responded to it.
