The story contains approximately 800 words that are required for everyday communication. Each word appears in the text several times so that the learner can become accustomed to its meaning in context. I aimed to include words from key topics such as clothes, food, politics, the office, sport and recreation, transport and business. I also used some common English set expressions, proverbs, quotes and lyrics from famous songs. The story also features numerous dialogues.
Each chapter is followed by a list of key words. No translation is provided so that the learner can make a note of the meanings in their own language.
The story is written in slightly simplified English to allow the learner to recognise and memorise grammar structures easily. At the end of each chapter there are questions and/or grammar exercises.
«The greatest textbook ever written. Damn near genius.» — Ignaty’s three-year-old daughter
An audio-version of the book is also available, and the authors strongly recommend that you use it to improve your listening skills. Go to www.lifesensei.uk/audio to purchase it.
Abstract
Guadeloupe is a paradise on earth. Due to a number of factors, this island state, now independent of France, has not suffered the financial crisis, which hit the rest of the world. Strict rules regulate how the bankers work and they seem to enjoy this. George has been working in the National Bank of Guadeloupe for ten years. Every morning he comes to the office, switches on his computer and listens to the voicemail that says in a nice female voice: “You have … no new messages”. He enjoys his small rituals as much as he enjoys singing. But one morning the old world was destroyed by a single email from overseas, which led to a series of events, a wave of new thoughts and unexpected encounters…
