On Sense and the Sensible: Aristotle's Exploration of Perception and Reality (Large Print Deluxe Edition For Easy Reading) (Library of Alexandria)

Aristotle's classic essay is the missing link between his Physics and his Metaphysics-the place where biology, optics, and ontology intersect. This reader-friendly edition pairs clean, contemporary prose with crisp commentary, illuminating every rhetorical twist and technical term.

Inside you'll learn:

• The Five-Fold Mechanism - How each sense operates through a unique medium, yet converges in a single "common sense."
• Appearance vs. Reality - Aristotle's argument that perception is not passive reception but active discernment.
• Colors, Flavors, and Echoes - A proto-scientific explanation of how qualitative qualities arise from quantitative changes.
• The Problem of Error - Why illusions occur, and how reason corrects them.
• Legacy & Influence - How this short work shaped medieval optics, Enlightenment empiricism, and today's cognitive science.

Diagrams, cross-references, and a glossary of Greek keywords turn an ancient scroll into an engaging modern handbook-for students, scholars, and curious minds alike.
