About this Item
A fascinating exploration of the architecture of baptismal fonts across England. With 40 Plates by F Simpson and Engraved by R Roberts. This book details both the history and location of each font as well as describing the architectural style and dimensions. Each illustrative plate of the individual fonts has an accompanying page outlinging the best aspects of each font as well as some history about the churches they are in. The descriptions also mention how the fonts have altered in appearance over the recent years, and how well they have been preserved. The majority of the churches described are based in Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. This is because Simpson lived in Stamford, on the Lincolnshire-Northamptonshire border. In a quarter morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally, in a lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned due to paper used with spotting throughout and some instances of foxing. Near Fine. Seller Inventory # LTH30-G-11
