A Series Of Letters In Defence Of Divine Revelation In Reply To Rev. Abner Kneeland's Inquiry Into The Authenticity Of The Same by Hosea Ballou. This 1820 reprint collects Ballou's polemical exchange defending divine revelation against Abner Kneeland's skeptical inquiries and includes a religious correspondence with the Portsmouth pastors Buckminster and Walton. The work presents a sustained, reasoned defense of revealed religion, arguing that truth claims rest on evidence, miracles, and the credibility of biblical witnesses rather than linguistic primacy of Greek and Hebrew. Ballou addresses questions about the necessity of special revelation, the reliability of the gospel accounts, the possibility of miracles, and the potential universality of salvation. By tracing debates over biblical interpretation, proof of the resurrection, and the role of translators and critics, the book offers insight into early American theological method and the contest between universalism and orthodox credalism. The volume contributes to the history of apologetics and the ongoing dialogue about faith, reason, and divine truth.
