Add to basketBust-length portrait of Hercules de Serre. Pierre François Hercule de Serre (1776-1824) was a French soldier, lawyer and politician. He was a deputy from 1815 to 1824, and Minister of Justice from 1818 to 1821. Although nominally center-right, he had liberal views on press freedom, direct elections and the use of juries. Steel engraving on wove paper, sheet size 273 x 181 mm., platemark 226 x 153 mm. Engraved by Achille Giroux after 'M[ademois]elle de Montfort', and published in: Cormenin, Louis-Marie de Lahaye. Livre des orateurs. Parijs: L.A. Pagnerre, 1842. Achille Giroux (1816/20-1854) was a French printmaker, painter and lithographic draughtsman in Paris. His works depicting horses were exhibited at the Salon between 1840 and 1854. In very good condition, left margin a little uneven and with small nicks. Margin edges lightly browned.
