Serving with Power : Reviving the Spirit of Christian Ministry

Help for a ministry gone stale.

Christianity is facing a crisis of preaching, a crisis of evangelization, and a crisis of morality; the result is a ministry that's lost all life. In this new book, prominent theologian Kortright Davis shouts a wake-up call to all Christian ministers, both ordained and lay, of every denomination. With apostolic intensity, he challenges traditional concepts of leadership and service and proposes radical new approaches to restore the vigor to ministry in this post-modern age.

Serving with Power identifies seven areas of crisis common to the whole Church. Its solutions can transform all denominations while at the same time renew the strengths inherent in each. Davis' work draws from the richness of his Afro-American heritage, from a wide range of contemporary theologians and spiritual writers, and from such recent historical events as the post-apartheid South Africa and the deaths of Princess Diana and Mother Teresa. Yet the book is always firmly rooted in the Biblical imperative to proclaim the Gospel.

This dynamic work will revitalize priests, ministers, deacons, lay ministers, bishops, social activists, and theological educators.

Kortright Davis is a parish rector in the diocese of Washington, D.C., Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Howard University School of Divinity, and theological consultant to several ecclesiastical bodies and dioceses. His most recent book is Can God Save the Church? He lives in Kensington, Maryland.
