Incomplete set of seven out of 16 books in the Boni Paper Books series. Set includes: 1. The Golden Wind by Takashi Ohta and Margaret Sperry (1929; 269 pp.), 2. My Reminiscences as a Cowboy by Frank Harris (1930; 217 pp.), 3. The Return of the Hero by Darrell Figgis (1930; 221 pp.), 4. Sun-Way by Margaret Sperry (1930; 220 pp.), 5. Commando by Deneys Reitz (1930; 313 pp.), 6. The Master of the Day of Judgment by Leo Perutz (1930; 195 pp.), 7. Wandering Women by John Cournos (1930; 173 pp.). All have colorful paper wrappers and are in fair to good condition. Some chipping, creasing, and small tears; moderate shelf wear and scratching; mild soiling and staining; a bit of sunning and toning. Bindings are tight. Interiors are clean except for occasional markings from previous owners. My Reminiscences as a Cowboy has large chunks torn off of front free endpaper and half-title page. Rockwell Kent served as series designer. In 1929, publishers Adam and Charles Boni introduced Boni Paper Books, sold by mail-order subscription. The series produced 16 titles before shifting to the Bonibooks imprint. Though the subscription price proved to be too high and the series fizzled out rather quickly, it still marked an important milestone in the publishing industry. The attempt to democratize literature influenced the Book of the Month Club as well as the creation of Random House and Penguin Books. Please inquire for additional photos.
