Beautifully illustrated with fresh and vivid colour facing each page of text. There was a lot of drama surrounding Awdry's illustrators over the years and the books are as well known for the quality of their drawings as much the text. Many illustrators have contributed to the titles including Clive Spong, Gunvor and Peter Edwards, C. Reginald Dalby and John T. Kenney. The world s favourite steam engine started life in the 1940s created by the Rev. W. Awdry, when he was making up stories for his son. The first book in the Railway series was published in 1945. The Three Railway Engines was then followed by 26 stories from Rev. Awdry, with his son Christopher taking the reins in the 1980s and adding 14 stories of his own. This selection is from The Thomas the Tank Engine Book Club and features two of the original titles. This set features a total of 18 stories in 9 books. Chronologically, they are A Close Shave - (also Dirty Work) Bertie's Chase (also Old Iron) Bowled Out (and also Dirty Objects) Bull's-Eyes. and(Percy's Predicament) Duck and Dukes (and Cross Patch) Home at Last  (and Rock 'n' Roll) The Deputation (and Break Van) The Sad Story of Henry (and Gordon and Henry) James and The Diesel Engines(Crossed Lines and Deep Freeze).
