Seven Friends Tintype

This 19th century tintype is a portrait of seven men sitting casually in front of the camera with a decorative backdrop in the background. Five of the men are wearing caps and a couple of them are smiling; their cheeks have been enhanced with pink coloring. Tintype has decorative paper frame. Manuscript caption on verso of frame reads: "N. E. Masters, J. S. Hile [? ], Thos. Francis, C. P. Merrill, Clarence Boyd, N. L. Jones, Benj. Harrison." Tintype with frame measures 4 �" x 6 �". Photographer is unknown. The tintype is in very good condition with light fingerprinting; the frame has light creasing and soiling. Although little is known about this group, the well-composed image seems to depict seven pals looking their best.
