One of two hundred and fifty copies printed at the University Press, Oxford.In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards.Not much is known of the recipient of these letters, Charles Ryle, other than that he was employed as an auditor at the East India House and as one of two executors of Charles Lamb's will.These letters offer a glimpse into their relationship, with mentions of Ryle's promotions and Lamb's grievance at the loss of Ryle's child.This work contains seven letters that were sent from Lamb to Ryle, with four full facsimile pages, showing the handwritten third letter. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. With significant rubbing and fading to the boards, resulting in chips to the paper. Damp stains to the spine. Instances of worm holes to the boards and pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the endpapers and the odd spot. Good.
