The Seven Tablets Of Creation (EditionFirst Edition)

Leonard William King's The Seven Tablets of Creation is a landmark study of one of the most important texts in ancient Mesopotamian literature-the Babylonian creation epic, Enuma Elish. In this detailed work, King presents the cuneiform tablets that recount the origin of the world, the rise of the gods, and the triumph of Marduk, the supreme deity who brings order out of chaos. Through his expert translations and commentary, King reveals how these ancient myths shaped early conceptions of the cosmos, divine authority, and humanity's place in creation. The text offers invaluable insight into Babylonian religion and its profound influence on later theological and cultural traditions. More than a translation, King's work is a pioneering effort to reconstruct the ancient worldview of Mesopotamia. He carefully analyzes linguistic details, parallels with other Near Eastern myths, and the tablets' symbolic structure to show how creation was understood as both a divine act and a cosmic battle between order and chaos. The Seven Tablets of Creation stands as a cornerstone for students of ancient religion, mythology, and history-preserving one of humanity's earliest and most powerful attempts to explain existence and the divine forces that govern it.
