Synopsis
Seven Words to Live By consists of meditations on Jesus’ seven last words from the cross. These seven sayings Jesus spoke from the cross are eternal. At the same time, they penetrate to the heart of our human concerns.A factor that makes these words extraordinary is that they are the last words from a dying man. People have long been fascinated by such last words. Sometimes these last words have provided touching memories and revealed wonderful truths. That is infinitely and definitely the case with Jesus’ words from the cross. These words certainly do provide touching memories and wonderful, meaningful truths. These seven last words deal with the heart of God’s good news for our lives. May we listen and learn well, and may we apply their meaning to our lives. These seven last words of Jesus from the cross are indeed words to live by.
About the Author
Ross West has had a varied career in publishing, writing, and serving churches. A friend once asked him how many careers he had had anyway. To Ross, it seems like one, but he can understand how others see more than one. He has served churches in New York, Kentucky, Arkansas, Virginia, Louisiana, and Georgia. He also has been involved in a ministry of writing and publishing in both secular and religious venues. Through his career in publishing, he has led in producing hundreds of Bible studies and has written numerous articles and Bible studies. His most recent place of ministry was as publisher of BaptistWay Press(R) in Dallas, Texas. Prior to that he served as an editor and then manager of an adult Sunday School editorial section at the Baptist Sunday School Board, Nashville, Tennessee, and then as director of Creative Services for the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America, Irving, Texas. For a number of years, he has had his own writing and publishing consulting business, Positive Difference Communications. Ross is the author of three previous books (How to Be Happier in the Job You Sometimes Can't Stand; Go to Work and Take Your Faith Too! and Living in the Meanwhile) and co-author of another (Teaching Adults the Bible, out of print). Among his published writing, he has had sermons published in two editions of The Abingdon Preaching Annual. Ross served for ten years on the Committee on the Uniform Series, the interdenominational group that plans the International Sunday School Lesson Series under the auspices of the National Council of Churches. He is a member of the Commission on Education/Nurture for the Baptist World Alliance. His seminary education includes the degree of Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Studies, focused on studies in the Greek New Testament.
