On any given day, you can spot a rainbow or feel a soft breeze. This is the Caribbean, and to most, it's paradise. In 2006, husband and wife Cal and Joan Coolidge decided to make that little slice of paradise their new home. They bought a small hotel in the Caribbean-on the US Virgin Island of Saint Croix, to be exact. The Pink Fancy Hotel, just like the island it sat on, was breathtaking. Seventeen Steps of Stone recounts Cal and Joan's real-life Caribbean adventure: how the two, with no hotel-management experience, left behind their comfortable suburban existence, stable jobs, and adult children to navigate a life and business on one of the most stunning islands in the eastern Caribbean. Narrated by the couple themselves, this travelogue shares every twist and turn-the good and the bad-that they experienced while living (and working) in paradise. com/lake-frederick-publishing/home This item is printed on demand. In 1973 Cal and Joan met in a Bradley University physics class; not too long after, the two were married. Cal notably worked for more than twenty-six years in the defense industry before switching gears and moving into the financial world as a stockbroker and financial advisor. Along the way, Joan found her calling as a librarian and mother.
In 2006, the two decided to leave their stable jobs and seek adventure. They purchased and operated a small hotel on the US Virgin Island of Saint Croix.
Cal and Joan are finally settled with their dog, Max, in the upper Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. They spend a good part of the year traveling, spending each February on Key West.
Joan is a keen reader of fictional mysteries while Cal's interests include travel and golf. Cal and Joan raised two impressive young women, Melinda and Sarah, their daughters.
