Timothy Covington, a professor of clinical pharmacy at Samford University School of Pharmacy, Birmingham, Alabama, provides comprehensive, up-to-date information on birth control, sexually transmitted diseases, and other aspects of sexual health. After a review of reproductive physiology, the next eight chapters examine use, safety, effectiveness, and other aspects of contraceptives. The middle chapters discuss causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. The remaining chapters are each devoted to a single topic: premenstrual syndrome, toxic shock syndrome, the effects of licit and illicit drugs, the effects of illness on sexual function, methods of pregnancy detection, abortion, etc. A good resource, although occasionally didactic in tone.
