Angelo P. Giardino, MD, PhD, MPH, FAAP Angelo Giardino is the medical director of Texas Children's Health Plan, a clinical associate professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, and an attending physician for the Texas Children's Hospital's forensic pediatrics service at the Children's Assessment Center in Houston, Texas. Angelo Giardino completed his residency and fellowship training in pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Immediately after his fellowship training, Angelo Giardino became the assistant, and then the associate, medical director at Health Partners of Philadelphia, where he had primary responsibility for utilization management, intensive case management, and health care data analysis. He also shared responsibility for the plan's quality improvement program. Additionally, he began the Child Abuse and Neglect Team for Children with Special Health Care Needs, which was funded by a three-year grant from a local philanthropy. In 1998, he was appointed associate chair of clinical operations in the Department of Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and in June of 1999 he was asked to chair the CHOP Quality Committee. These accomplishments are only a few of his career.
Michael L. Weaver, MD, FACEP, CDM
Michael Weaver has served as Medical Director for St. Luke s Hospital s Sexual Assault Treatment Center in Kansas City, Missouri, since 1980. The program has expanded throughout the St. Luke s Health System s eleven hospitals and has evolved into a full Clinical Forensic Care Program addressing the needs of elderly abuse, child abuse, and domestic violence patients. St. Luke s established the first private Sexual Assault Treatment Center in the country and was part of the first and largest Sexual Assault Response and Resource Teams (SARRT) program in 1974. He is currently Medical Director of their SANE program, a founding member of the Kansas City Interdisciplinary Response to Sexual Assault (KCIRSA), and a board member of EVAW International. He is also a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians task force that developed and published the Evaluation and Management of the Sexually Assaulted or Sexually Abused Patient. He has lectured for several organizations including the National College of District Attorneys; participated in the video Presenting Medical Evidence at Trial developed by the Department of Justice, National Judicial Education Program; and worked with the Department of Justice s Office on Violence against Women to develop A National Protocol for Sexual Assault Forensic Examinations Adult/Adolescence. He recently received recognition from the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department for his efforts to improve care of sexual assault victims, and in 2005, he was awarded the Visionary Award from the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). He is the also the Medical Director of the multidisciplinary 7th Annual Forensic Investigations Conference, addressing sexual assault, domestic violence, child and elderly abuse education from the crime scene to the courtroom.
Patricia M. Speck, DNSc, APN, FNP-BC, FAAFS, DF-IAFN, FAAN
Patricia Speck is an internationally recognized family nurse practitioner who specializes in public health and forensic nursing. She graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Nursing and later completed her doctoral dissertation on sexual assault program evaluation. As a board certified family nurse practitioner, Patricia s clinical practice focuses on the health aftermath of violence and her research centers on forensic nursing practice topics. She is a consultant, author, and lecturer on forensic nursing and has earned more than 20 local, national, and international awards and professional honors for her work
