The Shadow of Command (Paperback)

Ambition has a new face at Fort Horizon, and it belongs to Captain Jake Sterling. A peer to Julian Reed, Sterling arrives with a rigid adherence to protocol that threatens to dismantle the unit's hard-won cohesion. As he challenges established norms, First Sergeant Thompson finds himself in a silent war for the soul of the company, balancing the cold demands of the manual against the human reality of the soldiers.

But the shadows of command stretch far beyond the motor pool. Colonel Vance and Major General Cole are fighting their own private battles-one against a family crisis, the other against a political siege in the Pentagon. When a secret from Staff Sergeant Chavez's past resurfaces, threatening her career and her family, she is forced into a dangerous alliance with Sterling. A real-world emergency will soon test every leader on the base, proving that when the shadow of command falls, only the truest hearts can find the light.
