From the dusty lanes of a Haryana village to the grand avenues of Rome, Damascus, Houston and Karachi, Krishan Chander Dhaka's life as a diplomat has been a journey of discovery, service, and reflection.

In the Shadow of History: A Diplomat's Quest for Truth and Heritage traces his progression from humble beginnings to the senior ranks of the Indian Foreign Service. Along the way, it offers candid glimpses into diplomatic life: protocols, pressures, and humorous moments, as well as deeper reflections on heritage, spirituality, and identity.

The book brings alive his encounters across continents while also revisiting defining moments of India's modern history: the Partition of India in 1947, India-China War of 1962, India-Pakistan Wars of 1965 and 1971, and contemporary debates such as the farmers' agitation. Particularly notable is his exploration of the untold story of the Jat community, their contribution to India's history, and the forgotten legacies of leaders like Maharaja Surajmal, Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram, and King Mahendra Pratap.

Rich with personal anecdotes, historical insights, and cultural observations, this debut work is both a memoir and a meditation on India's past and present. A must-read for those curious about the life of a diplomat, India's untold histories, or the interplay of personal heritage with global events!
