Shadowed Paths

The collection consists of the best of his early works – Sukhodol, The Last Rendezvous, Apple Fragrance, The Gentleman from San Francisco – and stories written in his last years – Leka, Sunstroke, Shadowed Paths, and others. They may be called stories about love and about the unforgettable Russian landscape. “For here,” Bunin writes about himself, “in the hushed stillness of the fields... amidst the corn that advanced to our very thresholds, amidst the snowdrifts, my childhood, full of wistful and rare poetry, was spent.”

Bunin is one of the most brilliant Russian writers of the early 20th century. Although Bunin won the Nobel Prize for Literature, he is not well known in the West -- a shame given the elegance of his prose. This is a collection of nine stories by Ivan Bunin (1870-1953), written at different times.
