Shadows on a Distant Shore is the second in the series of Montclaire Mystery Novels.  Though it's action follows closely on the events of the first Montclaire Mystery Novel, When Beggars Die, it is not a sequel.  Shadows is a stand-alone story, which takes Montclaire and his colleague, Fitz, more deeply into the Kaiser's machinations to disrupt the evolving alliance between France, England and Russia and to acquire a decisive weapon for his arsenal.
