“Beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself” (Luke 24:27).
It is a common misconception that Jesus only appears in the New Testament. Yet Pastor Doug Batchelor, president of Amazing Facts, reveals that Jesus actually appears many times in the Old Testament— sometimes in person, yes, but most often in types and shadows as seen in the amazing stories and lives of Old Testament characters.
Some of these types of Christ, these shadows of light, are obvious, such as when Abraham placed the wood on the back of his beloved son Isaac, who then carried it up the hill to the place of his own willing sacrifice. Or when the prophet Elisha, like Jesus, performed a miracle multiplying bread to feed his disciples, even providing leftovers. But sometimes, finding the shadows of Jesus in the Word of God requires a more careful examination.
Jesus said that the Scriptures “testify of Me” (John 5:39). With a little help, you can also discover the golden thread of a Savior woven through the entire Bible tapestry. Shadows of Light is one of the most enriching spiritual journeys you’ll ever experience, a Bible study that will increase your confidence in the Book of Books and grow your faith with every chapter.
