This valuable account was first published in book form (without the introduction) in 1917. It was the first of a series on 'Shakespeare Problems' edited jointly by Pollard and J. Dover Wilson. The work has evidently retained its importance, for it was re-issued by Cambridge as recently as 1967. Read 2589 (recording this original edition).
