The Shaping Of Jewish History: A Radical New Interpretation.

This is a new kind of book on Jewish history. It is not a storage house of information, facts, or dates; nor is it a catalogue of battles, books, and heroic personalities. It is a far more audacious effort. By deliberately setting for myself the goal of redesigning Jewish – and as a consequence world – history, I have been compelled to rearrange, reallocate, and restructure the data already known. I have, in a word, attempted to make intelligible the entire range and sweep of Jewish history, and to expose all of its remarkable complexity as the working through of a concept of the unity of all reality, which I call the unity concept. I try to demonstrate that Jewish history reveals itself to have been a process of elaboration of this simple, fragile, tenuous concept, espoused by a group of semi-nomadic sojourners in the Ancient Near East.
