Gregor Cailliet received his Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1972, where he studied the vertical migration and feeding habits of deep-sea fishes. Cailliets been on the faculty at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories ever since, teaching courses in ichthyology, marine fishes, marine ecology and population ecology. Recent research interests include life histories of elasmobranchs (age, growth and reproduction) and the ecology of deep-sea fishes, especially those occurring in the Monterey submarine canyon.
