Item description from seller

George Gamow and C.L. Critchfield, "The Shell-Source Stellar Model" in Astrophysical Journal, University of Chicago Press, March 1939, volume 89 number 2, pp 244-254 in the issue of pp 143-322. This is the full issue with the original wrappers, extracted from a larger bound volume. GOOD copy. Faded ownership rubber stamp on the front wrapper. This is a significant paper in the history of developing the idea of nuclear astrophysics, though it is not on the order of the Hans Bethe papers of 1938 (proton-proton reaction) and 1939 ("Energy Production in Stars" in the "Physical Review") that were truly foundational.
