Shelli: R-Evolution

The third thrilling sci-fi mystery in the critically acclaimed SHELLI: Synthetic Crimes series!

Evolution. Revolution. Robot evolution. Our evolution—begins.

As the only synthetic investigator who appears outwardly human, Shelli lives in two worlds but fits into neither. Machines fear her, humans resent her, and no one trusts her. But when a synthetic goes against its programming and destroys itself, committing the first known act of “synthacide,” the country panics and turns to Shelli.

Hoping to prove such a defect is impossible, she and her partner, Special Agent Jake August, follow a dangerous trail back to an old case erased from history—and from Shelli’s own memory.

Now the race is on to uncover a conspiracy years in the making and a long-buried crime that could bring about Shelli’s end.

R-Evolution returns readers to a near future where secret government agencies vie for control and the Synthetic Underground fights for freedom. Caught in the middle, Shelli and Jake August find themselves embroiled in their most dire investigation. One they won’t escape from unscathed. Or unchanged.

SHELLI: R-Evolution is a fast-paced science fiction detective noir where nothing is what it seems, and the truth proves even more dangerous than the lies our government tells us. In his newest high-tech thriller, author Doug Brode moves beyond questions of artificial intelligence and emerging consciousness to ask something far more unsettling: what are the societal consequences of creating life in our own image? And how long before our creations demand—or deserve—the same rights as humans?

Fear the past.
Prepare for the future.
The next evolution is here.
