Sherlock Holmes

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is dead. His greatest creation wants to know why.

July 1930. The creator of Sherlock Holmes collapses in his garden at Windlesham. Natural causes, says the coroner. Case closed, says Scotland Yard.

Then a letter arrives at 221B Baker Street. The handwriting is unmistakably Doyle's. The postmark is eleven days after his death.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson take the strangest case of their career, and it unravels everything they know. Fresh manuscript pages appear overnight on Doyle's locked desk, describing events before they happen. A secret literary society will stop at nothing to restore the boundary between fiction and reality. And Professor James Moriarty, who died at Reichenbach Falls, has been seen alive.

Because the impossible truth is this: Holmes and Watson have stepped off the printed page, and someone wants to force them back.

How do you solve a crime when the victim is your own creator?

The detective built from pure logic must investigate his own existence, follow clues left by a dead man, face an enemy who should not exist, and reach across a boundary no character has ever crossed, toward the one person who can still save them. What Holmes finds there has never been attempted in the pages of any book.

Written in loving homage to Conan Doyle's canon, The Case That Wrote Itself moves from fog-bound Baker Street to the shadowed grounds of Doyle's own estate, through seances, secret chambers, and a locked-room mystery where the room is the book itself. It is a detective story, a love letter, and something more: a story that hands you the pen, because the way Holmes escapes his troubles just might change the way you fix yours.

Prepare for a Sherlock Holmes adventure unlike any ever written. The game is not merely afoot. It has come alive.

David A. Streen brings wit, warmth, and reverence to the world's most beloved detective. Inspired by his father's love of Holmes and written to honor the legend, this is his fiction debut.
