Black leather binding with ornate gilt scrolls and frames on the front and back covers. 4 gilded raised bands to the spine with gilt titles in the second compartment and ornate gilt frames in the other compartments.With gilt dentelles to the cover edges and inner turn-ins. With ten steel plate engravings by James Fittler, R.A.S. from the paintings of Nicholas Pocock, esq. Condition good/very good, cover edges rubbed, binding sound, endpapers spotted, marginal spotting to the plate pages, texts clean. William Falconer (1732-69) was lost at sea 7 years following the publication of the first edition of this work.
