The Shoe: Willie Shoemakers Book of Racing

1976, Rand McNally, Chicago, IL. Oversize hardcover title, 208 pages. Beautifully printed work, with over 100 color and b&w photos throughout. During the 1940s and 1950s, of the many athletes of the time. Bill Shoemaker stood out because he was 4' 11" and weighed under 100 pounds. He daily climbed aboard 1,200 pound high-strung thoroughbreds and brought them home in race after race. Here is a 30-year nostalgic backward look at a career and man to remember. Excellent text and side looks at other great jocks of the time, including: Longden, Arcaro, and Pincay. Some great horses are paraded in front of us, too.
