After the Tashkent earthquake in 1966, architects experimented with Western design and youth underwent their own version of a sexual revolution. This study of Soviet disasters challenges stereotypical representations of the Soviet Union as a monolithic state.

About the Author

Nigel Raab is Professor of Russian History at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He specializes in Imperial and Soviet history and has written books on historical theories and on the digital humanities. In his spare time, he likes to go for long walks and bike rides across Los Angeles.
