"Your actions do make a difference," says Tasaday, and he shows how environmentally concerned shoppers can help the earth by buying the right product. He covers 102 categories of consumer products, giving a brief description of an item, its manufacturer, use, disposal, and environmental impact. Tasaday lists specific brands, stating why they are/are not environmentally desirable. He also gives alternatives to non-environmentally friendly products. There is certainly much to learn from this book. Cross references abound; the glossary is very good. Tasaday's emphasis on cruel-free animal testing is perhaps tempered by his suggestion of killing a rodent quickly by submerging it in a bucket of water and disposing of it with the household trash. Overall, very good, and a needed update to the Bennett Information Group's The Green Pages ( LJ 11/1/90).
