The Short Life of Horace Moore

A novel by S.M. Roberts

In the quiet village of Taplow, where the Thames winds like a silver ribbon and the churchyard sleeps beneath ancient yews, one name lingers through the moss and mist: Horace Moore.

Born in 1851 to a humble carpenter and a hymn-singing mother, Horace lived a gentle life of music, woodwork, and quiet dreams. He longed not for glory, but for warmth, a riverside inn, a loving home, and a future with the woman he cherished. But fate had other plans. Tragedy struck just as life was beginning to bloom, tearing Horace and Edith apart when illness claimed him too soon.

told through soft voices, quiet rooms, and the echoes of songs long past, The Short Life of Horace Moore is a moving portrait of love, loss, and the quiet ways we endure. It’s a novel about remembering the forgotten, about lives that ripple beyond their years, and about doors that remain open, just in case someone finds their way back.
