Contains over 163,000 words, with combinations and idiomatic phrases. Words and meanings are set out to reveal their chronological sequence of development since the days of King Alfred. Obsolete, archaic and dialectal uses are included, as well as modern technical and scientific words. 1975, Third edition, revised with corrections. A very good 2 volume set only marked by light tanning of the edges and old tape marks on the endpapers. The d/w's are unclipped and good with short, repaired edge tears and sun fading of the spines and partial sun fading of the panels. Scans available if required.
