Side Dishes Creative and Simple: Vegetable and Fruit Accompanyments for All Occasions

Help at last for the cook who is bored with serving the same old vegetables with a pat of butter who has neither the time nor the inclination to make a production of a side dish. Deidre Davis provides more than 100 recipes for accompaniments, from the novel to the traditional - all simple enough to make while the main course is cooking.

As Melicia Phillips pointed out in Sides (LJ 3/15/95), it's usually much easier to decide on the main dish for dinner than to come up with an interesting accompaniment or two. Davis (Fresh Look at Saucing Foods, LJ 12/92) provides 100 or so recipes for pasta and potatoes, grains and beans, and condiments, as well as vegetables and fruits. The author, who describes herself as a natural-born innovator, is talented and creative, and her easy recipes should be a boon to busy cooks?and their families?who are tired of the same old green beans.
