Signage and Information systems: in the visual sphere

This monograph explores the field of signage and information systems all around us which we may take for granted. In every part of the world there are traffic and public transport systems that keep life in the communte running smoothly. In every airport, bus and train station there is information boards and maps at hand to help us on our way efficiently. Here selected examples are used to portray the creation and implementation of these systems by the experts who make them. The early history of subway and metro is recorded right through to the present day by a host of key figures and events, with a distinct reference to nineteenth century tunnel engineering and twentieth century graphic design practice. The text and content attempt to be reader friendly to the student, enthusiast and general reader alike with an insight into modern society as well as a starting guide to further reading or study.
