Original black ink signature on beige paper fragment. No date, circa 1870s-1890s. Auburn, New York. 4 3/4" x 2." Paper fragment is very clean and intact but has age toning and is clearly cut or torn at the bottom edge which has cut off a decorative underline under "Auburn, NY." The rest of the signature is intact and unaffected. A Very Good copy. Signature of Theodore M. Pomeroy handwritten on a beige paper fragment. The signature reads, "Theo. M. Pomeroy, Auburn, NY." Theodore Medad Pomeroy (1824-1905) was an American lawyer and politician. He was a member of the Whig Party (1847-1860) and Republican Party (1860-1869). He first became a member of United States Congress during the extra session of 37th Congress convened by President Abraham Lincoln shortly after the American Civil War had started. Pomeroy served as a U.S. Representative from New York from 1861-1869. Pomeroy served the shortest term of any Speaker of the House to date when Schuyler Colfax resigned his position as Speaker to become Vice President and Pomeroy was elected Speaker by Congress only to leave his Congressional position one day later. Pomeroy served as Speaker from Schuyler's resignation on March 3, 1869 to noon on March 4, 1869 when Pomeroy retired from Congress. He later served as Mayor of Auburn, New York from 1875-1876 and a New York State Senator from 1878-1879.…
