Add to basketOriginal black ink signature on small card made of white cardstock. Card has slightly beveled edges. March 3, 1885. 3 1/2" x 2." Card is clean and intact overall but has age toning, offsetting on front (affecting signed area), slight darkening, and some glue residue on back. A Very Good copy. Signature of Wayne MacVeagh handwritten on white cardstock. The signature reads, "Wayne MacVeagh, March 3: 1885." Wayne MacVeagh (1833-1917) was an American lawyer, politician, and diplomat. MacVeagh served as the United States Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire from 1870-1871, the 36th United States Attorney General under President James A. Garfield and President Chester A. Arthur in 1881, and the U.S. Ambassador to Italy from 1894-1897. In his political career, he was a Democrat from 1892-1896 and a Republican before and after that period. MacVeagh was also a Unionist during the American Civil War and championed the Allied cause during World War I.
