In the Foreword of this book, Dr. Bill Monroe made a very accurate and concise summary of its "This book is an analysis of the changing view of God's people toward Scripture. The authors make the case that Scripture is 'God's unchanging, objective standard of absolute truth' and that 'we know God only by faith--not by sight, sense, or direct experience.' " The trend today is toward a direct, sensory, feelings-oriented Christianity, which has seriously undermined the sense of the authority of the Bible among Christians and within our culture. All forms of subjectivism -- charismatic, existential, or postmodern -- have in common that what you feel becomes truth for you. This stands in contrast to the objective Scriptures of historic Christianity. The authority of the Bible must be restored and proclaimed as the one unique body of absolute truth against which all other claims are to be measured. It is time for Christians to surrender to this reality. We can continue to be divided, each seeking his own revelation from God, or we can deliberately choose to come together around the objective Word. Until we do, most of the six billion souls in the world will die in unbelief.
