1930. No Edition Remarks. 88 pages. Brown dust jacket over red cloth. Binding remains firm. Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Pencil inscriptions to front free endpaper. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Spine is in good condition. Unclipped jacket has light edgewear with tears and creasing. Medium tanning to spine and edges. The top of the back board has some wear otherwise the boards look good. Name and date on 1st page in. Small ink blot on lower part of front board. Gold gilt on top outside edge of the pages. "Commendatory Verses" by five of author's colleagues at front of book, one addressing author's "Departure for America," evidently to accept a post at Vassar College. Maroon Library Binding (NO Ex-Library markings) with gilt lettering on spine; t.e.g. (still shiny); rough-cut fore-edge; thin line of spine faded across spine ends; middle area on gutter, spine edge, spine slightly darkened, ostensibly, due to holding book in hand palm, so that spine lettering . . .'ure of pain' is unreadable, while 'The Signat'. . . and author name remain readable, despite gilt lettering diminishment; rubbed at spine ends, with mild wear on edges; two minor bumps and concomitant minor abrasions to fabric on top rear edge; 1/4" white paint mark on lower front cover edge, smaller such spot near mid-point rear cover at 1/2" down from top edge. Spine tight; corners lightly rubbed, but still essentially square. Clean text. Association copy of one of author's students at Vassar College, in pencil, in her hand: "my English professor freshman/ year at Vassar/ Faith Adams '37 --/ (Faith Adams Griefen)".
