This U.S. Navy ace is credited with downing 13 enemy aircraft over the Pacific; ditching his plane in the ocean with engine trouble, he spent three days in the ocean on a raft unobserved by Japanese aircraft and ships until an American submarine picked him up. Signed Commemorative Envelope, 7½" X 4½", cancelled in Jersey, U.K., on 8 May 1985. Fine. Pictorial color cachet fills left half and depicts two Douglas Bostons flying along the French coast, titled "40th Anniversary of VE Day / 8 May 1985," with text at right detailing commemorative flight on which this envelope was flown. In a blank area near center, Rehn signs boldly in black fineline, adding "Cdr. USN-RET" beneath. Printed limitation inkstamp on envelope verso notes this is #8 out of 9 examples produced. Accompanied by printed card with history of the Doulas Bostons and the No. 342 Squadron. Bookseller Inventory # 37816
