On January 4, 1940 this Brattleboro, Vermont resident became the first U.S. citizen to receive a monthly Social Security check -- $22.54; she only paid in $24.75 to the system, but by the time of her death had collected $22,888.92. Signed First Day Cover, 5½" X 3¼", cancelled in Washington, DC on 26 September 1964 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Preprinted 4-cent "Social Security" postage at upper right. Near fine. Mild age toning on verso. On the verso (alas!) of this printed postal card, Fuller signs boldly and in full in blue ballpoint. Original transmittal envelope also present, cancelled 17 October 1974 -- weeks after her September 6th 100th birthday and three months before her January 1974 death. A very scarce signature.
