Signs of Spring

What do robins and skunks, box turtles and great blue herons, gray squirrels and honeybees all have in common? They all are living pieces, along with wood frogs, bluebirds, spring peepers and more, in the seasonal dance that takes us from winter into summer. In “Signs of Spring” William Hamilton synthesizes ten years of observations on the arrival of spring to the ecosystems of Western Pennsylvania. The flowering of the trees, the waking of the hibernating animals, and the arrival of spring migrators are chronicled in a daily format that stretches from January to May.
