The acclaimed knitting shop Tricoter has been described as an experience rather than a store by more than one customer. Beryl Hiatt opened Tricoter (pronounced Tree-ko-tay; from the French verb meaning to knit) in the summer of 1984, a result of her lifelong passion for knitting and a desire to share that passion.

In 1990, Beryl moved Tricoter to suburban Seattle and opened its doors right next to Lindy Phelps and her new gourmet coffee shop. Lindy, with a background in store design and merchandising, soon joined forces with Beryl and her unique sense of style and love of fibers. Together, Beryl and Lindy are best known for creating beautiful sweaters with easy-to-follow patterns that reflect individual styles, along with an atmosphere filled with color, texture, and friendship. Their combined passion for knitting, entertaining, beauty, and color have proven to be a successful combination.
