Violet Moore HIGGINS, illustrator. 12mo; 126, [1]pp; green buckram over board, color pictorial onlay to front board picturing two children singing from musical scores; pictorial endpapers in sepia tones, ownership in neat pen on ffep; illustrated half-title, fp, vignette of two children holding music on title page, pictorial copyright page; 12 full-page color illustrations including fp, small illustrations throughout text; binding tight; light rubbing to edges, else fine. A very charming book for children introducing them to famous composers and musicians in story form. Each chapter is introduced by a rhyming verse. In introducing the chapter on the Austrian composer, Joseph Haydn the chapter starts "Said Papa Haydn, Though I roam. / I ll always remember singing at home, / In Vienna I learned to sing / And play on almost everything! " Illustrated throughout by Violet Moore Higgins (1886-1967), a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago, she was also a writer and cartoonist. Seller Inventory # 1835
